Once again gracing our screens on CBS, I found myself captivated by the glamour of the 82nd Annual Golden Globe Awards. On Sunday evening, an impressive 10.1 million viewers tuned in to witness this spectacular event.
Instead of getting the total from the usual benchmark, Nielsen, we’re using data from VideoAmp because CBS’s parent company, Paramount Global, is embroiled in a contract disagreement with the audience measurement firm and thus can’t obtain their data at this time.
10.1 million more viewers tuned in this year’s show compared to last year, marking a 7% rise. Last year’s event averaged 9.4 million viewers, as measured by Nielsen. This year’s Golden Globes, hosted by Jo Koy, was the first time CBS broadcast the awards. Compared to NBC’s telecast in 2023, it saw a 50% increase. The drop in viewership for NBC’s 2023 show might have been due to the controversies surrounding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which organized the awards, following the scandals that led to its dissolution.
According to VideoAmp’s data, there was a 9% increase in viewers tuning in to livestreams on Paramount+ and the CBS app this year, as compared to the same period last year.
On Sundays, from 5 pm until slightly after 8 pm, the Globes broadcast aired. This time slot provided an advantage due to CBS airing the Chiefs-Broncos NFL game precedingly. Yet, the program was simultaneously competing against NBC’s Vikings-Lions game telecast, which started at 5:30 pm and attracted an average of 28.5 million viewers.
At the 2025 Golden Globes, Nikki Glaser made history as the first solo female host. Her performance was met with rave reviews, with EbMaster critic Araminde Tinubu praising her as “vibrant and witty” from the start. Tinubu also noted that Glaser’s engaging topics and numerous hilarious moments helped restore the Golden Globes to its once delightful reputation. On Monday morning, co-showrunner and executive producer Glenn Weiss told EbMaster that Glaser “has potential for this role in the long term” and may have even been asked to return as host next time.
Ricky Kirshner functioned as co-showrunner for the Golden Globes, working alongside Weiss under their White Cherry Entertainment label. The production of the Golden Globes is handled by Dick Clark Productions, a company jointly owned by PMC (EbMaster’s parent company) and Eldridge.
