GOG Dreamlist Lets Fans Vote For What Classics Should Come to the Platform

GOG recently unveiled a fresh feature titled “GOG Wishlist“, which empowers enthusiasts to significantly influence the selection of games available on their platform by preserving titles. While GOG has previously incorporated community voting, the GOG Wishlist aims to provide fans with substantial impact over which games are featured on the site.

A large quantity of votes signifies significant enthusiasm, which impacts both GOG and intellectual property (IP) proprietors, as stated in their FAQ. However, it’s important to note that while more votes can certainly sway GOG and franchise owners to introduce older games onto the platform, GOG clarifies that not every highly-voted game will be included.

In a move made last November, Good Old Games (GOG) initiated their GOG Preservation Program with the aim of ensuring that classic PC games remain playable not just now, but also in the years to come. The platform Dreamlist extends this initiative by enabling fans to suggest which titles they believe should be included in the program.

In their original statement, GOG explained that if a game falls under the Preservation Program, it signifies they will invest their own funds to ensure the game remains compatible with contemporary and upcoming systems.

The Conservation Initiative kicked off boasting a collection of over 100 games, featuring popular picks such as Diablo and the initial Resident Evil series. In the time to come, additional titles will be added – a few of which are chosen based on votes cast in the GOG Dreamlist poll.

On the Dreamlist, both the tally of votes and a more intimate angle hold significance. As players cast their votes on the Dreamlist, they’ll also have the opportunity to share a heartfelt narrative detailing their reasons for wanting the game to endure.

GOG assures that the stories (games) they offer will be meticulously conserved, similar to the games themselves. Their statement reads: “We’re developing a strategy to transfer these Stories to GOG.COM game cards upon the game’s release. We don’t want them to disappear.

Through its Preservation Program, GOG currently offers over a hundred games, and with the addition of the Dreamlist feature, we hope to demonstrate to publishers why it’s beneficial for them to add even more games to the platform, ensuring these titles continue to function smoothly on contemporary devices.
