Apple TV is expanding its partnership with the Monsterverse, and a new series that will serve as a prequel to ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ is currently being developed.
What do we know about the Monarch prequel series?
The upcoming series adds to the Monsterverse universe and tells the story of Colonel Lee Shaw – the character Wyatt Russell portrays – before the events of ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.’ Russell will return as Shaw in a story set in 1984, where Shaw undertakes a dangerous secret mission. His goal? To prevent the Soviets from unleashing a massive new Titan that could devastate the U.S. and change the course of the Cold War.
Joby Harold, the Emmy-nominated writer and producer, will be the showrunner for the upcoming Young Lee Shaw series. Apple TV+ also revealed that Harold will be in charge of the entire Monsterverse franchise on the platform, including both new and established Titans.
Apple TV+ is adding a new show to its collection of Monsterverse content. Previously, they produced ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,’ featuring stars like Brian Russell, Kurt Russell, Anna Sawai, and several others. Season two of ‘Monarch’ will debut on February 27, 2026.
Since its release worldwide, ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ has been a huge hit with viewers, and Apple TV is excited to share what Joby and the team have created. According to Morgan Wandell, head of international development for Apple TV, this new series, led by Joby and in partnership with Legendary, will expand the Monsterverse with more exciting stories and a deeper look at the Titans, all while focusing on compelling characters.
