I was so excited to hear Prime Video cast Ryan Hurst as Kratos in their new God of War series! It’s awesome because he was already part of the God of War universe – he played Thor in Ragnarok and even got a BAFTA nomination for it! I think he’s a fantastic choice to bring Kratos to life on screen.
Prime Video shared more information about the upcoming TV series, explaining it will largely follow the storylines of the most recent two games. The show centers on Kratos and his son Atreus as they travel to scatter the ashes of their loved ones, Faye. According to the show’s description, Kratos attempts to guide Atreus in becoming a worthy god, while Atreus tries to help his father connect with his humanity.

Christopher Judge is the first actor confirmed to star in the upcoming God of War TV series. It’s still unknown who will play Atreus or other characters. Judge is a veteran actor, well-known for his roles in shows like Sons of Anarchy and the film Remember the Titans, with a career spanning many years in Hollywood.
Filming for the God of War TV series is expected to start in Vancouver this March, meaning we might hear about more cast members and other details shortly.
So, I heard back from Santa Monica Studio about the new Kratos voice actor, Hurst, and they seem really hyped to see what he brings to the role. They even said he’s joining a seriously impressive group – T.C. Carson and Christopher Judge, who both totally nailed the character and made him iconic. It’s cool they’re acknowledging the guys who came before, and I’m definitely curious to hear Hurst’s take!
I’m so excited about the God of War show! For those who don’t know, Ronald D. Moore, who was behind the incredible Battlestar Galactica, is leading the project as showrunner, executive producer, and one of the writers. It’s being made by a great team – Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios are partnering with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions to bring it to life.
Frederick E.O. Toye, known for his work on “The Boys” and “Fallout,” will direct the first two episodes of a new show. A release date hasn’t been announced yet. Prime Video is also creating a live-action “Tomb Raider” TV series with Sophie Turner in the lead role.
The God of War series will likely continue, though there are currently no new games in development that have been revealed.
