According to a source within the company, it’s rumored that Sony could be auditioning actors for their upcoming God of War installment, which is said to possibly unfold in the setting of ancient Egypt.
In a variety of styles, the mythology of Egypt has been portrayed throughout different editions of the God of War series. As an illustration, when investigating Tyr’s Temple in the 2018 version, Kratos and Atreus come across numerous Egyptian artifacts.
In Ragnarok, much like how an Ankh functions as a significant, pilfered artifact leaving its mark in the game’s Codex, so too does it hold a similar position. Those who delved into the Valhalla DLC of Ragnarok might remember Tyr brandishing not one, but two Khopesh swords during his combat with Kratos.
For quite some time now, fans have been speculating that the franchise could head to Egypt next. So far, developers at Santa Monica Studio haven’t confirmed anything, but recent reports hint that these fan theories might not be entirely off-base.
Sony may be casting for God of War Egypt game
According to entertainment expert Daniel Richtman, who posted on his Patreon account, Sony is reportedly in the process of hiring actors for a secretive AAA game project that could potentially be the follow-up to God of War.
According to Richtman (through VISCERAL), Sony is employing Middle Eastern actors for a yet-to-be-revealed AAA title, which could potentially be the upcoming God of War sequel delving into Egyptian folklore.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to say, the info we’re dealing with right now is purely speculative. If Richtman’s report about casting is on point, there’s no concrete evidence linking it to the upcoming sixth mainline God of War game. In other words, it’s too early to draw any conclusions. Let’s wait and see what unfolds!
It’s important to mention that a version of God of War, inspired by ancient Egyptian themes, almost became part of the soft reboot that debuted in 2018.
At Devcom 2018, Director Cory Barlog disclosed that the development team found themselves torn between choosing Egyptian or Norse mythology before ultimately opting for Norse.
At the gathering, Barlog displayed some initial sketches of a potential scenario, where Kratos and his son were battling a Sphinx. It’s uncertain if the team will delve back into these past ideas. However, considering how Ragnarok ended, it seems there are countless possibilities for further exploration.
