God of War Kratos actor spills details on Trilogy remakes, says Santa Monica reveal coming summer

Christopher Judge, who currently voices Kratos in the Norse-themed God of War games, has said he won’t be involved in the remakes of the original Greek God of War trilogy. He also suggested that Santa Monica Studio will share more details around late summer.

February’s State of Play on February 12, 2026, brought a surprise for God of War fans: God of War: Sons of Sparta. This new 2D game explores the early life of Kratos and his brother, Deimos, adding to an already busy month for the franchise.

Santa Monica Studio also announced complete remakes of the first three God of War games for PlayStation 5. Fans were left wondering who would voice Kratos in the remakes and when the studio’s next new game would be revealed.

Christopher Judge won’t return for the remakes

I was so excited to hear Judge answer a question about Kratos at Fan Expo Canada! Apparently, someone asked him directly if he’d be playing Kratos in the remake, and he said no, it’ll be TC again. He clarified it’s not a reboot, but they’re updating the game with new tech, adding more content, and a completely new fighting system – and TC will be the one voicing the original Kratos for all of that.

He’s talking about TC Carson, who originally voiced Kratos in the PlayStation 2 and 3 games, and he’ll be returning to play the character in the remakes. Christopher Judge, who voiced Kratos in God of War (2018) and Ragnarök, won’t be involved this time.

The judge hinted at future announcements, saying we’ll likely hear about their plans around late summer. While he didn’t specifically mention a new God of War game, he confirmed news regarding their current projects will be revealed later this year, leaving the exact nature of the announcement open to speculation.

Since releasing God of War Ragnarök in 2022, Santa Monica Studio hasn’t announced much, except that they’re working on a remake and had previously started—but later cancelled—plans for an online game. While many believe the studio is already developing the next major God of War title, some sources suggest Cory Barlog’s team is creating something entirely new, separate from the story of Kratos.

These aren’t just simple updates of the original games. The developer, Judge, mentioned using “new technology,” adding content, and creating a completely new combat system – announcements that quickly divided fans. While some people were excited about these changes, others strongly opposed them, with many saying they didn’t want a new fighting system at all.
