Amazon Web Services is experiencing major issues, causing outages for many popular websites and services in the US and globally.
Starting around 12:40 AM Pacific Time, a problem with Amazon Web Services (AWS) caused several apps and online services to stop working. This impacted things like gaming, messaging, banking, and smart home devices, and many users reported issues on Downdetector throughout the morning.
Many popular online services are currently experiencing problems. This includes gaming platforms like Fortnite, Roblox, PlayStation Network, and Nintendo Online. Even everyday apps and devices, such as McDonald’s, Ring doorbells, and Alexa, are affected, preventing users from logging in or using important features.
Major internet outage continues
Amazon Web Services (AWS) reported problems with several of its services in the US-East-1 Region, a key data center located in Northern Virginia. This region is vital to many major online platforms, so even a brief outage can cause widespread disruptions.
At 2:27 AM PDT, Amazon Web Services reported that services were starting to recover. They indicated that most requests were now going through successfully, though they were still working to process a backlog of requests. AWS promised to share further updates on their official Health Dashboard.
While the company hasn’t officially announced that everything is fixed, many of the services that were down are slowly being restored. Developers of popular games like Fortnite and Roblox have confirmed problems on their own status pages as systems come back online.
The AWS US-East-1 region has suffered significant outages before. Previous incidents in December 2021 and June 2023 disrupted popular services like Disney+, Slack, and even parts of Amazon itself.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is working to fix the recent issues and will publish a detailed report once everything is back to normal. Until then, some users might still have trouble logging in or notice slower performance as AWS catches up on processing requests.
