Glen Powell’s New A24 Thriller ‘How To Make a Killing’ Lands Release Date

Glen Powell is staying busy after the success of his recent movie, The Running Man. His next film, originally called Huntington, will now be titled How To Make a Killing and is set to be released by A24 in early 2026. John Patton Ford is directing, and The Hollywood Reporter confirms the release date is February 20, 2026. Two new actors have also joined the cast.

The new movie, How to Make a Killing, is based on the 1949 British film Kind Hearts and Coronets. Both stories center around someone determined to get an inheritance, no matter the cost. The original film is a dark comedy about a man who murders the eight relatives standing between him and his inheritance. Given this history, How to Make a Killing is likely to be similarly dark and suspenseful.

This film has been in development for over a decade, originally appearing on The Black List in 2014 as a script called Rothchild. Initially, Shia LaBeouf and Mel Gibson were set to star, and Jon S. Baird was slated to direct. Now, with Powell confirmed to lead the cast, Jessica Henwick, Zach Woods, Topher Grace, and Bill Camp will also star in the movie.

Glen Powell recently discussed the film with The Hollywood Reporter, sharing that a new title would be announced soon after the original title, Huntington, was changed. He praised the movie and director John Patton Ford, expressing his eagerness for audiences to see it. Powell’s enthusiasm is likely due to the success of Ford’s previous film, Emily the Criminal, which starred Aubrey Plaza. That film premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and garnered critical acclaim, especially impressive as it was Ford’s first feature film as a director and writer.

I’m really anticipating this one. Glen Powell is everywhere right now, and for good reason – he’s clearly got the momentum after Top Gun: Maverick. He’s gone from a great supporting player to headlining everything from Richard Linklater’s Hit Man to rom-coms like Anyone But You, and even big blockbusters like Twisters and The Running Man. Given that kind of range, it’s going to be fascinating to see him tackle something a bit darker in Ford’s new film. Plus, with A24 handling the promotion and production, you just know they’ll do something creative with this release.
