As a seasoned movie enthusiast with decades of film-watching under my belt, I must say that Glen Powell‘s latest stunt has left me utterly charmed and impressed. The audacity to hold a lookalike contest and then offer the winner a cameo for their family member in his next movie is something straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster!
On Sunday in Austin, Texas, Glen Powell surprised the victor of a doppelganger competition by offering a unique reward: a role in his upcoming movie.
However, not for the winner personally, as Powell’s real-life parents often appear in his movies. Instead, he extended the offer to the doppelganger’s “parents or any relative they prefer.
Powell was not present at the Austin contest because he’s currently shooting the remake of “The Running Man” directed by Edgar Wright in the U.K. Instead, his mother and aunt stood in to judge the competition. The winner, Maxwell Braunstein, who looks like a doctor’s assistant, was eventually crowned as the best lookalike, according to Fox 7 Austin.
During the event, Braunstein was given five dollars, a cowboy hat, a whole year’s supply of queso from Torchy’s Tacos, and a personal message from Powell himself, who happened to be on a FaceTime call with his mother at the time.
In the video, Powell playfully said, ‘Welcome to our Justin Hartley doppelganger competition!’ However, he wasn’t joking when he added that you’ve been gathered for a vital task. He wants to plan a robbery, and since we all resemble each other, masks won’t be necessary. This is the ideal crime, as they can’t catch us all because we are essentially one criminal entity – the unified Glenterprise.
Powell went on to reveal that he had his own special prize to offer the winner.
It’s well-known that my parents appear in every film I produce, but here’s an exciting twist: the person who wins the Glen Powell lookalike contest will have their family members, chosen by them, star alongside us in my next movie. This isn’t a joke – it’s a genuine offer. The prize carries a cash value of a staggering $6 billion.
Following the upcoming release of “The Running Man” in November 2025, currently in production, Powell will then appear in the darkly humorous film titled “Huntington,” alongside Margaret Qualley and Ed Harris.
The Powell doppelganger competition is part of a series of such events that have been happening globally recently. These include Jeremy Allen White look-a-like contests in New York and Chicago, as well as a Harry Styles gathering in London this month. The trend began at the end of October with a Timothée Chalamet look-a-like contest held in NYC, which was attended by the actor himself, creating a social media storm and inspiring numerous similar gatherings.
