‘Gladiator II’ Gets Paramount+ Streaming Release Date

Coming soon to Paramount+ on January 21st is ‘Gladiator II’, the highly anticipated action movie of the year, which serves as a sequel to Ridley Scott’s Academy Award-winning historical epic.

This movie features an impressive cast including Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Derek Jacobi, Yuval Gonen, Rory McCann, Peter Mensah, Matt Lucas, Tim McInnerny, Alexander Karim, Lior Raz, Line Ancel, Alec Utgoff, Lee Charles, Chidi Ajufo, Chi Lewis-Parry, Alfie Tempest, Dean Fagan, and several others.

Following the takeover of his home by the oppressive emperors now ruling Rome, Lucius is compelled to fight in the Colosseum. To find the courage to restore Rome’s former grandeur for its people, he reflects on his past.

In its opening weekend, the film garnered an impressive $87 million at the international box office, making it Paramount Pictures’ highest-grossing debut internationally for an R-rated movie. Moreover, it ranked among Imax’s top three international releases of the previous year. Currently, the movie has grossed approximately $454 million worldwide.

Apart from the hit movie “Gladiator,” Scott’s other blockbusters that have earned significant revenue worldwide are “The Martian” and “Prometheus.” The former brought in approximately $630 million, while the latter made around $403 million.

In his critique of the movie, EbMaster’s film expert Owen Gleiberman characterized “Gladiator II” as a “sturdy slice of neoclassical popcorn – an engaging epic filled with intense warfare scenes, Colosseum battles showcasing lavish beheadings and creatures both wild and human, accompanied by the more refined ‘decadence’ of palace politics.
