‘Gladiator 2’ Getting Global Premiere in London as Royal Film Performance

As a cinephile with over three decades of movie-watching under my belt, I must say that the anticipation for ‘Gladiator 2’ has been palpable since the original graced our screens back in 2000. The prospect of revisiting this epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome is truly exhilarating.

The long-anticipated follow-up to Ridley Scott’s Academy Award-winning film ‘Gladiator’, titled ‘Gladiator 2’, is poised to kick off its violent crusade in London, with a worldwide premiere scheduled for November 13.

Paramount Pictures has partnered with The Film and TV Charity for the world premiere of a special event known as the Royal Film Performance, an occasion frequently graced by royal figures (like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who attended the 2022 screening of “Top Gun: Maverick”). Although the movie might have been shown elsewhere before, it is believed that the London premiere will be its first significant red-carpet debut, with both cast members and crew in attendance.

24 years after the initial release of “Gladiator” in 2000, we find ourselves immersed once more in the grand tale of power struggles, political machinations, and revenge that unfolds against the backdrop of ancient Rome. After seeing Maximus, a highly respected figure, meet his demise at the hands of his own uncle, Lucius finds himself thrust into the Colosseum following the conquest of his homeland by the ruthless emperors who now rule Rome with an unyielding grip. Driven by anger and with the fate of the Empire hanging in the balance, Lucius must delve into his past to unearth the courage and integrity needed to restore Rome’s former glory for its people.

25 years after the release of “Gladiator,” Scott has been pondering the possibility of a sequel. Now, he’s thrilled to announce that ‘Gladiator 2’ is indeed in production. Filmmaking, as Orson Welles once said, is like the best toy train set a boy could ever have, and this project was no exception – it was the largest track I’ve ever navigated. In keeping with our industry’s spirit of giving back, the U.K. premiere of ‘Gladiator 2’ will be held in support of the Film and TV Charity, an organization dedicated to aiding our U.K. colleagues. I believe it will meet, if not exceed, your expectations.

John Fletcher, managing director at Paramount Pictures U.K., stated: “We’re thrilled and privileged that ‘Gladiator 2’ will be the 72nd Royal Film Performance. We believe this outstanding charity is an excellent partner for this highly anticipated film, and on behalf of Paramount, we eagerly anticipate hosting a night that everyone will remember as extraordinary.

Paramount will “Gladiator 2” in the U.K. on Nov 15 and in the U.S. on Nov. 22.

Marcus Ryder, CEO of the Film and TV Charity, shared his excitement about the confirmation of ‘Gladiator 2’ as the 72nd Royal Film Performance. As a first for him as CEO, this event offers a platform to showcase the remarkable diligence and skill of those often unseen contributors in the film, television, and cinema industry. Furthermore, it serves as a means to gather funds that are essential for us to carry on providing essential assistance to industry talent during difficult periods.
