I adore Christmas movies for so many reasons – the cozy drinks, the occasional charmingly cheesy scenes, and seeing familiar faces from shows I used to love. The upcoming 2025 schedule looks promising, and it seems we have even more to anticipate! Jared Padalecki, known from Gilmore Girls, and Leighton Meester of Gossip Girl have just signed on to star in a Christmas movie expected to premiere on Netflix, likely in 2026.
Hallmark’s calendar this year includes appearances by Aaron Samuels, Superman, and Sue Heck in the new movie A Keller Family Christmas. However, many Millennials are already looking forward to next Christmas, when the Netflix adaptation of Katherine Center’s novel The Bodyguard will be released. Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki announced the project on Thursday, joined by the book’s author.

Growing up, I was completely obsessed with Blair Waldorf’s amazing style on Gossip Girl, and I followed all the relationship drama between Rory and Dean on Gilmore Girls. So, I’m really excited about this news!
I just learned about The Bodyguard, a new movie from 2022, and it sounds like a fun holiday watch. Apparently, it follows a very serious bodyguard, played by Meester, who gets the job of protecting a charismatic actor, Padalecki, during the holidays. According to THR, expect some romantic tension and complications! I haven’t read the original Katherine Center novel yet, but let’s be real, you can pretty much guess where this story is headed.

Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum will direct the new film. If you’ve seen her 2022 movie, Purple Hearts, you might recall how powerfully it affected audiences.
Let’s hope this adaptation avoids the pitfalls of previous attempts. While some changes from the original story are already planned – for example, the setting is now Christmas, unlike the book – one major difference is the title. Since Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner starred in a famous film called The Bodyguard in 1992, a new title will be needed.
Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum shared her enthusiasm for the project and the actors involved, stating in a press release:
Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki have amazing chemistry, and I’m confident viewers will enjoy watching them together.
I’m really looking forward to this! Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, who previously starred together in popular shows, recently reunited on screen in Season 2 of Nobody Wants This. Viewers loved seeing Blair Waldorf and Seth Cohen together, and their new Christmas movie promises to bring back those same warm, nostalgic feelings.
Jared Padalecki recently caught up with his former Gilmore Girls co-star Matt Czuchry, and he’s joining Season 5 of The Boys with his Supernatural colleagues Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins.
Millennials like me are excited about this project, and we’re happy there’s a lot more to come before the movie premieres next Christmas. Keep checking back for news about the cast and the official title!
