This Thanksgiving, a giant Mario balloon will soar above New York City as part of Macy’s 99th annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. Nintendo and Macy’s made the announcement, promising a spectacular sight for parade-goers.
Nintendo has revealed a 3D preview of the massive Mario balloon that will soon be floating in the skies! The balloon itself will be huge – 51 feet long, 37 feet wide, and almost 44 feet tall. It features Mario in his classic look: blue overalls and a red cap. The pose is a nod to fans of the Super Mario Galaxy game.
Nintendo plans to release this in 2025 to mark the 40th anniversary of the first Super Mario Bros. game, which originally came out in Japan in 1985.
I’m so excited! Mario is going to be flying high above New York City at the Macy’s Parade on November 27th! It’s all to celebrate 40 years since the very first Super Mario Bros. game came out. Macy’s just gave us a sneak peek at the awesome new Mario balloon they’re making for the parade – it looks amazing!

Mario isn’t new to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! He first appeared as a balloon in 1986, at the parade’s 60th anniversary. Other popular characters from Nintendo, like Pikachu, have also been featured as balloons over the years.
The annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will be held on Thursday, November 27th, starting at 8:30 AM local time.
Everyone’s hoping Nintendo will create a new 3D Mario game for the Switch 2, but so far, there hasn’t been any official word about it.
