Giancarlo Esposito Reveals Dream Villain Role and Gets Approval from Acting Legend

As a dedicated gamer diving into countless virtual worlds, I’ve admired the unforgettable performances that grace our screens. One such performance was by Giancarlo Esposito, who brought a legendary villain to life in the 21st century. Yet, he yearns for a dream role – and luckily, an actor who earned an Oscar portraying this character has given him their endorsement.

Bryan Cranston gained global recognition for his exceptional portrayal of Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, a highly acclaimed television series (he also made an appearance in Better Call Saul). This breakthrough opened doors for roles in The Boys, The Mandalorian, and more recently, Captain America: New World and The Electric State.

Although he’s not only limited to portraying villains (I recommend watching “Do the Right Thing” if you haven’t), it is this role that he’s most renowned for.

Moving forward, he’s shown enthusiasm about portraying Mr. Freeze in James Gunn’s DCU, but that’s not his ultimate dream role; if given the chance, he’d prefer to play Hannibal Lecter instead.

Giancarlo Esposito wants to play Hannibal Lecter

In a recent chat with Empire, Esposito expressed his interest in portraying Hannibal Lecter. “Absolutely, I’d relish the chance. It would delve into the depths of my psyche to take on such a role, but I am ready for that challenge,” he shared.

In an earlier interview, Anthony Hopkins, who played Hannibal in three films including “The Silence of the Lambs,” suggested Esposito for the role, as reported by the star.

He shared that he’s both been and continues to be a devoted admirer of “Breaking Bad,” and he felt that my acting skills could portray Hannibal Lecter in a manner that he would find satisfactory, as he put it.

In a visit to Westworld, Hopkins paid Esposito a visit at his trailer’s doorstep. They engaged in a lengthy discussion inside the trailer that stretched beyond an hour. Topics ranged from art, humanity, acting, meditation, and more profound subjects. Esposito admitted that this conversation left him feeling overpowered.

In simpler terms, we barely discussed Hannibal Lecter; it was more like two powerful natural forces colliding. The nuances of our conversation have stayed with me since then, as I felt like I’d been acquainted with him for my entire life. He’s another person who’s a lifelong enthusiast, someone who will keep creating because he has that creative spirit within him. That moment was truly special.

Previously, TopMob had a conversation with Mads Mikkelsen regarding the possibility of a Hannibal comeback. To him, it should occur “within the coming few years, or else you’ll likely see him if he’s 70 years old.

Perhaps they’re hesitant about taking on something previously used, but since there’s a large group of enthusiasts eager for it, I remain hopeful,” he continued.
