The critically praised PlayStation game Ghost of Tsushima, where you play as a samurai protecting your homeland, is being turned into an anime. This was announced at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show. The upcoming anime series aims to provide fans with an exciting new method to engage with the game and features daring and innovative animation. Sony Music and PlayStation Studios are partnering with anime distributor Crunchyroll and Aniplex, known for Demon Slayer, to bring this show to life.

As stated in the press release about the new series, the forthcoming show will not revolve around Jin Sakai, the main character from Ghost of Tsushima. Instead, it plans to adapt the game’s Legends mode, which was a later addition and facilitated four-player cooperative play. In the Legends mode, a samurai, a ronin, an assassin, and a hunter join forces to combat mythical creatures born from Japanese folklore. This results in an adventure that delves deeper into the realms of the extraordinary and supernatural compared to the original game.

Currently, several specifics about the forthcoming series remain hidden, including its title. Yet, studios have hinted at a probable release date in 2027 and revealed that the series will exclusively air on Crunchyroll.

The animated series based on Ghost of Tsushima, produced by PlayStation Studios, joins their growing list of video game adaptations under development. Interestingly, one of the most highly anticipated among these is a movie version of Ghost of Tsushima created by John Wick’s creator Chad Stahelski. Although details about its progress are not confirmed, it seems that production is ongoing. Notably, this anime series represents PlayStation Studios’ debut venture into anime adaptations, as stated by the head of PlayStation Productions, Asad Qizilbash.

With our gaming properties demonstrating exceptional quality and adaptability in numerous successful films and TV shows, we’re thrilled beyond words to unveil our inaugural anime adaptation,” said Qizilbash. “The captivating setting of Ghost of Tsushima and its Legend mode, inspired by Japanese folklore, offers an ideal backdrop for this venture, and Aniplex is the ideal collaborator to transform Sucker Punch Productions’ acclaimed video game into a visually stunning anime series.
