As a huge fan of Genndy Tartakovsky’s work, I was really excited to see he’s taking a bold new approach with his passion project, *The Black Knight*. It reminds me of what happened with *Coyote vs. Acme* and *The Tiny Chef Show* – going directly to the fans on social media to build support. He shared about a minute of test animation, and it looks incredible! Apparently, he and his team have been developing this movie for six years, but the studio was hesitant, worried it wouldn’t draw a big enough theatrical audience. Everyone seems to think the studio is Sony Pictures Animation, given his previous work with them on *Hotel Transylvania*. He even admitted this strategy might get him in trouble, but he’s giving it a shot, and I, for one, am totally on board and hoping we can get this movie made!
Early footage reveals a large, powerful character battling a much smaller ninja. It showcases the kind of expertly-timed action that Genndy Tartakovsky is known for. He shared that the Knight Armor in the project is massive – 20 feet tall – and operated from within by a knight using a system of ropes, pulleys, and levers. The story is set around the 14th century, making it a sort of medieval robot battle. Tartakovsky’s post is gaining a lot of attention, with celebrities like Bobby Moynihan and Jack Quaid showing their enthusiasm in the comments.
