GenAI Is “Very Seducing,” Battlefield 6 Boss Says

Electronic Arts has been using artificial intelligence in game development for some time. While the upcoming Battlefield 6 doesn’t contain any content created *with* generative AI, DICE General Manager Rebecka Coutaz admits the technology is very appealing and they are exploring its potential.

In an interview with BBC Newsbeat, the EA spokesperson explained that they’re experimenting with generative AI early in the game development process to free up their creative teams. However, she clarified that the upcoming Battlefield 6 won’t include any content created using this technology. Despite this, she remains hopeful about the potential of AI, believing that if they can successfully integrate it, it will boost innovation and creativity.

I was reading an interview with Fasahat Salim, a dev on the new Battlefield, and he was saying that generative AI isn’t something we gamers should worry about. Apparently, the team is actually looking at ways to use it to make developing future games even better, so it sounds like they’re pretty optimistic about it.

He explained they’re figuring out how to effectively use the new tool within their current processes, and how it can help them improve their games.

It’s not surprising to hear EA developers excited about AI, especially since company leaders like CEO Andrew Wilson have also emphasized its potential benefits. While Wilson acknowledges that AI may initially lead to some job losses, he believes it will ultimately create more opportunities than it eliminates in the long term.

EA Sports recently stated that the development of their new college football game, CFB 25, benefited greatly from the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence. They aren’t alone – Sony has been utilizing AI in game development for some time, pointing to its use in speeding up the creation of games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Developers recently laid off from Candy Crush, a game made by Activision Blizzard, say they’re being replaced by the AI tools they actually helped build. And according to a new report in the Financial Times, Electronic Arts (EA) is considering using more AI to speed up game development now that it’s being taken private by a group of investors.

Battlefield 6 is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It’s been highly anticipated, and releases just before the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which comes out in November. You can find a full review on TopMob, along with helpful tips to get you started.
