After the tragic loss of actor Chance Perdomo before filming started, season two of Gen V required significant changes. Maddie Philips, a cast member, recently shared how everyone dealt with the difficult situation.
Cameron Boyce Perdomo, who played the magnetic-powered superhero Andre Anderson in the first season of the *The Boys* spinoff, tragically passed away in March 2024 following a motorcycle accident in New York. His character was the son of Polarity, played by Sean Patrick Thomas.
The writers of Gen V chose to remove the character from the second season, giving him a noble death. He sacrificed himself while attempting to help a friend escape from Vought’s Elmira prison, and this happened just before the season began.
Alexandra Philips, who portrays Cate Dunlap, recently shared how the show’s cast and crew coped with the loss of actor Angus Perdomo during filming.
Maddie Philips says the Gen V Season 2 cast’s emotions were real

The cast of Gen V was understandably upset filming scenes after Perdomo’s passing, and the show’s creator, Philips, admitted it felt difficult to incorporate his death into the show’s storyline in Season 2.
It was difficult to discuss how we’d address Chance’s role in the show, but the producers and writers made the right call,” she explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m glad we found a way to honor him throughout the season. While he remains an important part of the story, it didn’t feel right to focus on him too much.
She explained that the story felt both genuine, drawing from personal experience, and imaginative. She also admitted she struggled to discuss Perdomo when it happened.
We don’t know exactly how Amazon helped, but Philips reported that the actors were able to express their emotions and still complete the project.
We allowed each other the freedom to be ourselves, giving each other what we needed. Ultimately, we supported each other while also respecting each other’s space – it’s hard to explain, but we needed room to focus on our work because the show had to continue, which is a strange thought when you really consider it.
The actors and writers on ‘The Boys’ were deeply affected by the loss of actor Karl Urban. However, showrunner Eric Kripke noted in May 2024 that their grief pales in comparison to the pain felt by Perdomo’s family and friends.
We were just a week from starting filming when Chance unexpectedly passed away. This meant we had to quickly re-evaluate everything, and we did it in a matter of weeks. But whenever people comment on how challenging that was for us, I remind them that it doesn’t compare to the grief his friends and family are experiencing. It felt like the least we could do.
