One of the biggest surprises for Marie Moreau in Season 2 of Gen V was discovering a connection between Dean Cipher and her own history. As more information about The Odessa Project was revealed, it became clear that Marie and Cipher were linked through it.
Here are the details on how Cipher and Marie are connected on the show.
SPOILERS for Gen V Season 2, Episode 1-3.
Dean Cipher and Marie Moreau’s history in Gen V Season 2 explained
As a huge fan of ‘The Boys’ universe, I’m really excited about what ‘Gen V’ Season 2 is bringing to the table, especially as it connects to Season 4 and 5 of ‘The Boys’. The season is revealing some seriously shocking secrets about the world of Supes. We’re learning a lot about The Odessa Project, and it turns out Marie has a *huge* connection to it – she was actually created *by* the project, and appears to be the only one who made it! It’s fascinating because The Odessa Project was trying something different: instead of injecting kids with Compound V (which, as we know, is super dangerous and often deadly), they were trying to create Supes naturally, through birth, by mixing Compound V into a person’s DNA. It’s a really interesting twist on how Supes are made!
Cipher is a recently introduced character in the series. He first showed up as the new dean of Godolkin University, often called God U. But as the season went on, it was revealed that he’s connected to The Odessa Project.
I was completely shocked when I found out how I was really born. I immediately went to see Aunt Pam, who was really close to my mom. She was a little reluctant to tell me at first, but she finally explained that my parents couldn’t have a baby on their own, so they went to this place called God U. Apparently, they used a treatment similar to IVF, but with something called Compound V, and that’s how I was born with my abilities. But there was more to the story…
Pam also had some photos from the day Marie was born at the clinic. One of those photos showed that Cipher – actually Doctor Gould – was the doctor who delivered Marie. This discovery meant Cipher’s connection to Marie was much closer and more personal than Pam had ever realized.
You can stream Gen V Season 2, Episode 1-3 on Amazon Prime Video starting September 17, 2025.
