Gen V fans have one major Homelander complaint about Season 2 Episode 8

Gen V Season 2 Episode 8, titled ‘Trojan’, lays the groundwork for the upcoming fifth and final season of The Boys. Fans watching the episode have voiced one big concern as they head into the finale – and it centers around the notorious superhero, Homelander.

You really feel Homelander’s influence all over Season 2 of Gen V. It’s everywhere – from the posters they’ve put up all around Godolkin University to the way Sage is secretly working with Cipher (that’s Thomas Godolkin, by the way) to undermine him. It’s a constant reminder of his power, even when he’s not physically there!

Marie (Jaz Sinclair) shares a history with the villain – they’re the only people known to have survived Project Odessa, a secret experiment aimed at creating superpowered individuals. Because of her unique abilities, Marie might be the only one capable of defeating Homelander.

Considering everything that happened, many fans anticipated his appearance in the season two finale of Gen V. Be warned: the following contains spoilers!

Gen V Season 2 finale leads to Homelander complaint

Homelander appears only as a voice in Season 2, Episode 8 of Gen V, when he calls Sage following the changes at Godolkin University and the updated rankings. Some viewers have expressed disappointment that he doesn’t make a physical appearance.

One Reddit user expressed disappointment that Homelander wasn’t involved in the season finale, suggesting his appearance would have created a fantastic storyline for Season 5 of The Boys.

“I really thought he’d be here!” one person exclaimed. Another admitted, “I’m just upset it’s finished. I was hoping to see Homelander, honestly.”

Fans are expressing disappointment with another moment in the finale. Specifically, Marie kills Godolkin in a manner similar to Victoria Neuman, stopping his scheme to gain control over both her and Homelander.

Fans were expecting a confrontation between Godolkin and Homelander in Season 5 of The Boys, but it seems that won’t be happening.

One person commented, “It’s a shame Godolkin died – he would have been fascinating to watch trying to manage Homelander.” Another agreed, saying the idea of Godolkin controlling Homelander was wild.

One fan expressed disappointment that Godolkin was killed off so quickly, saying they were hoping to see a scene between him and Homelander.

The episode could have simply concluded with Godolkin taking control of Marie, her harming a member of The Boys’ young supe team, and Starlight rescuing the others before they all escaped.

Season 5 of The Boys will feature Godolkin manipulating Marie, and the first encounter between Homelander and Godolkin. There’s also a lot more happening, but it feels like a missed chance to explore certain storylines.

The Boys fans think Godolkin criticism is missing the point

But some disagree with these criticisms, arguing they’re focusing on the wrong thing. As one person put it, the real conflict is between Homelander and Butcher on one side, and The Boys on the other.

Someone else added that ‘Gen V’ was originally just intended as a smaller story within ‘The Boys.’ They explained that the show needed to introduce more powerful characters to challenge Homelander, and now it has a group of super-powered individuals who could potentially help fight him and The Seven.

A lot of viewers found Sage’s decision to ignore Homelander’s call more frightening than if he had actually appeared.

One fan shared a screenshot of a character’s name on another character’s phone, calling it “the scariest moment of the show so far.” Another commenter joked that the character whose name appeared on the phone was likely upset after being ignored, imagining them pacing and panicking in the hallway.

One person commented that the scene felt more stressful than the actual fight, and another exclaimed, “You absolutely shouldn’t ignore Homelander!”

People are right to speculate, but Sage often anticipates what others expect. We’ll have to wait until Season 5 of The Boys arrives in 2026 to see how the story continues.

While we wait for more news, I’ve been checking out all the awesome cameos from The Boys in Gen V. It’s also wild to hear Antony Starr think Homelander could actually take down Superman! And if you’re like me and always plan ahead, I’ve been looking at the release calendar for all the TV shows coming out in 2025.
