Gears Of War: E-Day Is Still Coming In 2026, Microsoft Assures Fans

Fans eager for a new trailer for Gears of War: E-Day were likely disappointed it wasn’t shown at The Game Awards. To reassure them, the official Gears of War social media accounts have confirmed the game is still on track for release in 2026.

The recent image posted on the Gears of War X account didn’t reveal any details about the game’s story, showing only a skull with a striking red and black background. However, it did officially confirm the game is scheduled to release in 2026.

Currently, Gears of War: E-Day is slated for release on Xbox Series X|S and PC. However, it’s highly probable that it will also come to PlayStation 5, following the path of Gears of War: Reloaded – the first game in the series available on a Sony console. Cliff Bleszinski, a co-creator of the franchise, has expressed his pleasure that the Gears of War games are no longer exclusive to just one platform.

The new Gears of War game, titled E-Day, was first shown at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024, but we haven’t heard much about it since. Previously, it was announced that John DiMaggio, known for his work on Futurama, and Carlos Ferro would return as the voices of Marcus Fenix and Dominic “Dom” Santiago.

This game tells a brand new story that takes place 14 years before the original Gears of War. It follows Marcus and Dom as young soldiers in the Coalition of Ordered Governments, during a time when the world of Sera was finally experiencing peace. That peace is shattered on Emergence Day, when the Locust Horde attacks and threatens to destroy humanity. The city of Kalona will be a key setting in the game’s story.

David Leitch, the director behind films like John Wick and Deadpool 2, will direct a live-action Gears of War movie for Netflix. Dave Bautista has been actively trying to get the role of Marcus for a long time, but hasn’t been confirmed for the part yet.
