SpongeBob SquarePants is having a huge year! A new video game and movie are on the way, and to mark his return to the big screen, Microsoft has created a special – and slightly unsettling – series of Xbox controllers featuring SpongeBob’s face. Be warned: looking at them for too long might make you crave a Krabby Patty!
SpongeBob SquarePants fans can now buy special edition Xbox controllers, including both the standard Xbox controller and the more advanced Elite Series 2. Both versions feature a fun SpongeBob design, but the Elite Series 2 has extra details like yellow thumbsticks and an orange D-pad, plus “pants” on the handles. Even the Xbox button and face buttons are styled after SpongeBob’s eyes – but don’t worry, he doesn’t seem to mind!
Both of these controllers will also be available through the Xbox Design Lab, letting you personalize them with different buttons, metallic triggers and D-pads, grippy textures, and even custom engravings. While you can make them pretty unique, unfortunately, you can’t add a mustache – even a seaweed one!
These controllers are a great match for the upcoming SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide game. The new 3D platformer features SpongeBob and Patrick working to fix the mess caused by King Neptune and the Flying Dutchman. You can still pre-order the standard edition for $40, or the special Ghostly Tides Edition for $90.
If you’re a big SpongeBob fan and don’t mind spending around $600, you can now pre-order a life-size SpongeBob SquarePants claw machine from Arcade1Up. Just like the ones you find at arcades and carnivals, it even has a “Scam Mode” that playfully takes your pretend money!
