With an increasing number of people purchasing iPhones pre-installed with TikTok from eBay, GameStop is encouraging its patrons to exchange their existing smartphones.
The prohibition of TikTok in the United States commenced on January 19, while the ByteDance app was taken down from both Apple and Google’s app marketplaces a day prior, on January 18.
Following a short 14-hour interruption in service, users who continued to have the app installed on their devices could once again utilize the platform, whereas individuals who had removed the app were not yet able to reinstall TikTok.
As a result, numerous, if not many thousands of people rushed to eBay to purchase iPhones that came pre-installed with TikTok, and one individual even spent up to $14,000 on an iPhone 15 Pro that had both TikTok and CapCut applications.
GameStop wants to buy iPhones with TikTok installed too
On their social media platform on January 22, GameStop announced that the buzz is real – they’re offering to purchase your phone when you trade it in, along with TikTok! Visit the link in their bio to discover its trade worth right away.
The picture with this post displays a GameStop advertisement, offering an option to exchange your device either for cold hard cash or store credit.
The text doesn’t clarify if they are providing additional funds specifically for an iPhone pre-installed with the TikTok app.

GameStop has been offering a trade-in service for video games since its inception, but it wasn’t until around 2013, after the launch of the iPhone 5, that they began accepting smartphones as trade-ins too.
Initially limited to Apple products, its success led to an expansion across diverse brands such as Samsung, Google, and Motorola over time.
Over time, GameStop has broadened the range of products they provide to their customers, which also means accepting more items for cash or trade credit. Nowadays, they even deal with trade-ins for devices such as tablets and smartwatches like the Apple Watch.
