While Kit Harington is hesitant about returning for a potential sequel, Sophie Turner is very open to the idea. Unlike Harington, Turner seems eager to reprise her role as Sansa Stark, likely seeing the financial benefits of returning to the world of Game of Thrones.
I recently asked Sophie Turner about the potential Game of Thrones sequels HBO is developing, and her answer was fantastic! She jokingly quoted Cuba Gooding Jr. from Jerry Maguire – “Show me the money!” – and then added that while it’d be tough, revisiting that world would also be incredible. It’s a playful response, but you can tell she’s definitely thinking about it!
Turner recognized that fans were unhappy with the final season of Game of Thrones, but she expressed satisfaction with how her character, Sansa’s, storyline concluded and believes it’s best to leave it as is.
Turner expressed satisfaction with how her character, Sansa Stark, concluded her storyline in Game of Thrones, noting that she felt it was a strong ending, unlike many others. Because she was so pleased with Sansa’s conclusion, she doesn’t think she’d be interested in revisiting the role.
Turner has said she’d need to read a script before agreeing to return to Game of Thrones. She explained it could be a wonderful experience, or it might feel like trying to recapture something special that’s no longer possible. She needs to see the script to know for sure.
Game of Thrones Spinoff Starring Jon Snow Scrapped
The TV series Game of Thrones ended with Sansa Stark becoming Queen of the North and Winterfell becoming an independent kingdom. Bran Stark was chosen as king of the Seven Kingdoms, while Jon Snow went to live with the Wildlings beyond the Wall. However, there are many untold stories set before the events of Game of Thrones.
Talk of continuing the story of Game of Thrones began in 2022 with plans for a series starring Kit Harington as Jon Snow. But it wasn’t until two years later that Harington shared that the project was ultimately shelved. He also explained his desire to keep the cancellation quiet.
Kit Harington explained to Screen Rant that he hadn’t discussed the project publicly because it was still in the early stages. He wanted to avoid leaks and prevent fans from forming opinions – either positive or negative – about something that might not even come to fruition.
When developing a project, you have to carefully consider all possibilities and decide if it’s truly worth pursuing. Regarding a potential Jon Snow spin-off, that idea is currently on hold. We simply couldn’t come up with a story that everyone felt passionate enough about, so we’ve paused work on it for now.
Harington hasn’t ruled out the possibility of making a sequel someday, but for now, the project is on hold. He stated, ‘We might revisit it in the future, but it’s currently shelved.’
Game of Thrones Universe Continues With House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Prequels
House of the Dragon is a prequel to Game of Thrones, meaning it tells a story that happened before the original series. It first aired in 2022 and is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, focusing on a civil war within the Targaryen family. The show will have a fourth and final season, with the third season expected to be released in Summer 2026.
In 2026, a new series called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere. The story takes place a century before the events of Game of Thrones and a century after House of the Dragon. Peter Claffey will star as Ser Duncan the Tall, with Dexter Sol Ansell playing his companion, Egg.
This story takes place during the reign of the Targaryen dynasty, when dragons are still a recent memory. It follows a group of unlikely friends as they face incredible challenges, powerful enemies, and dangerous adventures.
The new series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will debut on January 18th. Fans will have to wait until Summer 2026 for the third season of House of the Dragon.
