Okay, so Game Freak just dropped the first gameplay footage for their new RPG, Beast of Reincarnation, and honestly, it’s totally different from anything they’ve ever done before. I was expecting something similar to Pokémon, but this is a whole new direction!
Beast of Reincarnation is an action RPG where you play as Emma, a powerful young woman on the run, and her loyal wolf-like dog, Koo. Set in a ruined, post-apocalyptic Japan, they team up to fight a dangerous, world-consuming plant called ‘the blight’ and try to save their country.
A dark fantasy with fast combat and dual-protagonist mechanics
At the Xbox Developer Direct event, Game Freak revealed more details about their new game, Beast of Reincarnation. Shigeru Ohmori, the game’s General Producer, described it as their most action-packed and mature project yet.
The game focuses on quick, challenging combat. Players will need to dodge skillfully, land powerful attacks, and overcome tough enemies to succeed.
The game takes place in a grim and decaying world, endlessly repeating a pattern of ruin and renewal. It’s a dark fantasy experience featuring disturbing creatures—often twisted with plant life—and landscapes that are both wild and utterly broken down.
Beast of Reincarnation isn’t just about fighting; it also has solid RPG elements. You’ll improve your character, find lots of different weapons, and face tough bosses that require skillful timing and learning their attack patterns to defeat.
The game features a strong connection between the characters Emma and Koo, who both utilize the same Blight Power. Though they each have unique abilities to upgrade, their skills work best when used together through special moves called Blooming Arts. This encourages players to coordinate their actions – one character can attack while the other charges up their power.
Game Freak, the studio famous for creating the charming and straightforward Pokémon games, is trying something very different with this new release, venturing into unfamiliar territory.
Based on the recent announcement, Beast of Reincarnation looks like it will be a surprisingly unique action RPG when it releases this summer on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. It will also be available on Game Pass from day one.
