Game collector builds their own GameStop in their basement

A passionate video game collector decided to showcase their collection by recreating a GameStop store in their basement.

Some game collectors focus on completing their collection – owning every game for a specific console, for example. Others prioritize the way their collection looks and is presented.

A recent online sensation involves a dedicated gamer who recreated a GameStop store… right in their own basement.

Calling it a dream come true, he’s transformed the basement into a gaming museum, displaying old consoles, games, and accessories just like you’d see in a GameStop store.

A Reddit post from December 23, 2025 went viral, showcasing a surprisingly GameStop-like display of a unique collection – everything from the floor to the shelves looked just like the store.

I’ve been collecting games and stuff since the late 90s, and it’s been a real passion project! This latest collection actually took all summer to put together. It’s not just about the games themselves, though – I also love remembering the places and experiences connected to them. It’s about the whole vibe, you know?

“I grew up going to both large and small game stores,” the collector said.

I have really fond memories of visiting stores like Toys R Us and EB Games when the Dreamcast first came out. Everything felt so exciting – the demo stations, the magazines… I wanted to capture that feeling and create a store design that felt uniquely mine.

I was so surprised to find out it wasn’t just about video games! Half of the store is like a classic GameStop, full of games, but the other half is dedicated to VHS tapes – and apparently, it’s packed with cool collectibles everywhere you look!

When a local building supply store went out of business, a collector saw a chance to finally work on a long-held dream. They bought fixtures, shelves, and equipment for a very low price, allowing them to start building what they’d envisioned.
