Last week was quite a day for Valve co-founder Gabe Newell. He not only received his incredible new superyacht – a massive, over 360-foot diesel-electric vessel named Leviathan – but also launched the new Steam Machine gaming console. The yacht, built by Oceanco, and the console were both unveiled on November 12th.
The superyacht Leviathan is packed with amenities, including a hospital, science lab, dive center, hot tub, and basketball court. For entertainment, it boasts 15 gaming setups and two racing simulators. It’s unclear if the yacht has a Steam Machine or even the highly anticipated game, Half-Life 3.
According to Newell, yachts can be incredibly useful for scientific studies. He emphasizes that yacht owners should consider themselves part of a larger community and make sure their vessel benefits the areas they visit.

So, a lot of people don’t realize Gabe Newell basically lives on a yacht! He was talking about his daily life recently, and he said he goes scuba diving – sometimes twice a day! It’s pretty wild considering Forbes says he’s worth around $11 billion. And the yacht everyone knows about, the Leviathan, isn’t even his only one. He actually bought another one from Oceanco back in August!
Gabe Newell, when discussing his achievements, credits both good fortune and the support of a talented team. Last week, Valve revealed not only the Steam Machine but also the innovative Steam Controller and Steam Frame, a virtual reality headset. The price of the Steam Machine, expected to launch next year, hasn’t been announced yet.
