A G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover television show is happening.
Skybound Entertainment, known for titles like ‘The Walking Dead,’ and Hasbro are joining forces to create a new animated series for adults called ‘Energon Universe.’ The show is based on the ‘Energon Universe’ comic books and will soon be pitched to potential broadcasters and streaming services.
What else do we know about the G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover show?
According to Deadline, the new Energon Universe will be a large-scale crossover event bringing together the stories of G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Void Rivals. Joe Henderson, known for his work on the TV show Lucifer, will be in charge of the project as showrunner.
The show is similar in style to Kirkman’s animated series Invincible, known for its realistic and mature themes. Invincible has been very popular on Prime Video and has already been renewed for a fifth season, even before the fourth season premieres next March.
According to Deadline, Robert Kirkman, a lifelong fan of Transformers and G.I. Joe, secured the rights to publish comics based on these popular Hasbro brands in 2021. He then built a connected universe where Transformers, G.I. Joe, and a new series he co-created with Lorenzo De Felici called Void Rivals all exist together.
The Energon Universe has quickly become a huge success for Hasbro, selling over 7 million comic books globally in just two years. It began in June 2023 with the ‘Void Rivals’ series, which unexpectedly brought the Transformers character Jetfire into the story. This was followed by new ‘Transformers’ comics and four mini-series focusing on G.I. Joe characters in October 2023. In November 2024, a major G.I. Joe series launched, and the first issues of ‘Transformers,’ ‘G.I. Joe,’ and ‘Void Rivals’ all broke sales records. The ‘Transformers’ comic even won two Edgar Awards in 2024.
We don’t have any more information about the Energon Universe TV show right now.
