Refunds in full have been made accessible for individuals who bought a misrepresented N95 face mask from Razer. This announcement was made by the US Federal Trade Commission, indicating that reimbursements via checks and PayPal payments are being processed to 6,764 customers of this futuristic-looking accessory.

In May 2024, it was announced that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) had reached a settlement with Razer for over $1 million. The penalty was imposed due to Razer falsely claiming that their face mask met N95 standards, despite never having the mask tested to verify if it filtered out 95% of airborne particles as required by the FTC.

During the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak, Razer unveiled a N95 face mask featuring RGB lighting and voice amplification at CES in January 2021. The Razer Zephyr mask went on sale in October 2021 for $100. Yet, only a few months later, in January 2022, Razer revoked the N95 certification associated with the mask.

During the time of the agreement with the FTC, Razer expressed that it contested the agency’s accusations and did not acknowledge any wrongdoing on their part. Simultaneously, the FTC asserts that refunds for the Zephyr face mask should be cashed within 90 days, whereas PayPal payments must be redeemed within a 30-day period.

If you need details about the refund process, the Federal Trade Commission recommends reaching out to Simpluris at 1-833-285-3003 or reviewing their Frequently Asked Questions page. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the only significant refund case in gaming; last month, Fortnite players began receiving settlement refunds totaling around $72 million.
