Even though many fans are still upset about a show Netflix canceled three years ago, a new, excellent horror series is helping to make up for the loss.
Netflix is famous for canceling TV shows. While many of these cancellations are quickly forgotten, some fans still feel disappointed about the lost potential. One show that still stings for many viewers is a complex, sci-fi mystery series that premiered on Netflix nearly three years ago.
The show started strong, with a captivating first season and a cliffhanger that left viewers wanting more. Sadly, Netflix decided not to renew it for a second season.
It’s Still Hard To Forgive Netflix For Canceling 1899 After 1 Season
From the creators of the hit show Dark, 1899 generated a lot of excitement leading up to its 2022 release. The first episode, much like Dark, suggested a complex and expansive story to come. Like its predecessor, 1899 played with familiar genre tropes, but added its own unique blend of suspense, horror, and intriguing mysteries.
Despite showing promise, Netflix canceled 1899 before it had a chance to fully develop its story and gain the popularity of Dark.
Despite being a costly German production and generating excitement due to the popularity of Dark, the show 1899 didn’t hold viewers’ attention as well as Netflix hoped. Many people stopped watching before the end, potentially impacting interest in a second season.
It’s clear why Netflix focused on quick numbers to judge how well 1899 did. Unlike Squid Game, which was an instant hit, 1899 needed time to attract a dedicated fanbase and grow its audience.
Like Dark, the show 1899 could have built a dedicated audience over multiple seasons if Netflix hadn’t canceled it so quickly. Both shows, created by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, are known for complex, interconnected storylines that really pay off for viewers who stick with them. 1899 had the potential to deliver the same satisfying experience as Dark, but it was cut short after only one season.
From Fills The Void 1899’s Cancellation Left Behind
The new show, From, hasn’t explained where it takes place, but it appears to be different from 1899 – it doesn’t seem to be about a simulated reality. However, like 1899, From is set in a limited, puzzling location where the characters are stuck. Both shows create a sense of intense anxiety as the characters deal with shared trauma and the feeling of being isolated from the world.
Like the strange occurrences and underlying rules in 1899, From also creates a dangerous world governed by its own laws. Similar to other mystery-focused shows like Lost and 1899, From doesn’t hesitate to leave the audience with unanswered questions.
Although 1899 was canceled before it could answer all its questions, From will have the chance to finish its story properly. It remains to be seen if From will tie up all loose ends, but so far, the show has been excellent and is expected to remain strong until the very end.
Because of this, it’s easy to see From as the ideal show for anyone who was left wondering what could have happened with the cancelled Netflix series, 1899.
