After a gentle beginning focusing on Fern, Stark, and Frieren’s everyday lives, Season 2 of Frieren is truly kicking off with Episode 7 (Episode 34 overall), titled “The Divine Revolte.” The first seven episodes felt like a setup, and this episode delivers on that promise, marking the start of the season’s main story.
In the latest episode of Frieren, the team continues investigating the demon responsible for destroying Genau’s home. Their decision to split up and search independently proves to be a mistake, as they realize the demon has been manipulating them all along. Despite a season filled with action-packed shows like JJK and Hell’s Paradise, Frieren Season 2, Episode 7 stands out. It’s a reminder that this series, which focuses less on combat than many others, remains the highest-rated winter 2026 anime on both MyAnimeList and IMDb.
Frieren’s Quirky Character Personalities Shine in The First Half of Its Latest Episode
Episode 7 of Frieren Season 2 quickly gives a much clearer sense of the new characters, Genau and Methode, than previous episodes did. We learn about Genau through scenes from his past, revealing him as someone who appears tough because of difficult experiences, but is actually a very caring and sensitive person.
Genau builds up a tough exterior to shield himself from the hurt of losing loved ones, but Stark can see past that facade to the genuinely kind and caring person underneath – someone who likely feels things very deeply. In contrast, Genau’s partner, Methode, is quite different. She’s openly emotional and wears her heart on her sleeve, though she also possesses the skills and spirit of a seasoned fighter.
Methode provides much of the episode’s humor with her unusual habit of patting young girls on the head. Interestingly, she flips the typical trope of the older, predatory adult often seen in action anime. Instead of being a creepy old man like characters from Naruto or Jiraiya, Methode is a young woman, which makes her interactions with Frieren, around the middle of the episode, feel less unsettling and even a bit charming.
Episode 7 of Frieren Season 2 does more than just establish the new heroes – it formally introduces the main villain of this story arc, the demon general Divine Revolte. While this episode offers a first glimpse of Divine Revolte’s powerful appearance, viewers will be most surprised by just how clever and calculating he is.
Revolte genuinely views humans as something to hunt, and he’s incredibly clever about it, even managing to trick Frieren and her companions. He’s the first significant demon villain the series has presented since Aura in Season 1, and he’s just as formidable.
Frieren Season 2, Episode 7 is a Reminder of What Makes It One of the Greatest Shonen Battle Anime of All Time

The combat in “The Divine Revolte” is what truly sets it apart from previous episodes of Frieren Season 2. It’s the most action-filled episode so far, but it feels like just a taste of even bigger battles to come.
Frieren excels in every way as a story, which sometimes makes people forget it’s also a shonen action anime. Its heartwarming moments, comedic scenes, and emotional depth are strong enough to make the series work, but what truly sets it apart is its ability to balance everything seamlessly. Plus, the animation studio MADHOUSE consistently delivers high quality work across all aspects of the show.
Frieren Season 2, Episode 7 adapts chapters 72-74 of the manga, though the anime rearranged some scenes to fit its own pace. While these changes slowed down the previous episode, they worked well this time around. The episode closely follows the manga’s fight scenes, even recreating panels almost exactly, but it’s the animation of the moments between the action where the studio MADHOUSE truly shines.
Unlike many action-focused anime, Frieren excels by prioritizing strategy over brute force in its battles. Its magic system is easy to understand, letting clever thinking shine. While the show includes exciting close-up fights—often thanks to Stark—it avoids making conflicts feel meaningless. Even when a powerful character like Frieren is present, she often takes on a mentor role, allowing the younger Fern to face challenges and grow independently, which adds a compelling dynamic to the action.
Episode 7 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 is a standout, and it powerfully launches what promises to be one of the most exciting anime battles of 2024.
