Friends Fans Can Finally Get Closure on Joey

For years, details about the cancelled TV show Joey have been hard to come by. Fans have wondered about the behind-the-scenes story and why it didn’t last. Now, all episodes are available for free! NBC’s Joey, a spin-off of Friends starring Matt LeBlanc, has had its final eight episodes released in the United States. The official Friends YouTube channel has been uploading two episodes every Tuesday since March. This week marked the completion of the release, with all 46 episodes – including those never before shown in the U.S. like “Joey and the Dad,” “Joey and the Party for Alex,” “Joey and the Big Move,” “Joey and the Beard,” “Joey and the Critic,” “Joey and the Actor’s Studio,” “Joey and the Holding Hands,” and “Joey and the Wedding” – now available in a convenient playlist.

Matt LeBlanc received a People’s Choice Award for his work on the first season of Joey, which debuted in 2004. He famously said in his acceptance speech that the show would continue as long as fans wanted it to, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The series, also featuring Jennifer Coolidge, Andrea Anders, Paulo Costanzo, Drea de Matteo, and Miguel A. Núñez Jr., was canceled after only two seasons. This was ironic, considering the show began with Joey moving to Los Angeles only to discover his own sitcom had been canceled. The final eight episodes of Joey weren’t broadcast on U.S. television, and after the first season didn’t sell well on DVD, American fans couldn’t even purchase the second season. It took twenty years for fans in the U.S. to finally see how the show ended. As the theme song suggests, life didn’t go as planned, but ultimately, everything worked out.
