A free remake of the classic real-time strategy game, Dune 2: Battle for Arrakis, called Dune II The Maker, has been released.
This project aims to enhance the original game by Westwood Studios, keeping its core gameplay and feel intact. Improvements include higher resolutions, bigger maps, and much smarter AI. We’ve also carefully rebalanced the game, making infantry a viable strategy, and redesigned the interface for easier control, like selecting multiple units simultaneously.
While the game draws inspiration from the look and feel of Dune II, it’s a brand new experience and doesn’t require you to have or play the original.

The game has been updated to version 0.8.0. The biggest addition is support for larger maps – now bigger than 128×128! We’ve also squashed a lot of technical bugs and made improvements to the game’s interface and how it plays.
Just so you know, Dune II: The Maker is a single-player game only. If you’re hoping for multiplayer action in a similar game, Dune 2: The Golden Path is a good option. However, The Golden Path doesn’t have a single-player campaign, so the two games actually work well together, offering both experiences.
