Hollywood is mourning the loss of Keaton, who died Saturday at age 79. Throughout her extensive career, she earned the respect and admiration of many stars, and a flood of tributes have been shared since her passing. Reports indicate that emergency responders from the LA Fire Department were called to her home early Saturday morning.
Given his impressive career, Keaton has collaborated with many leading figures in the entertainment world. Francis Ford Coppola recently shared a heartfelt memory of working with him, posting a tribute on Instagram. He wrote:
It’s hard to put into words how incredibly talented and captivating Diane Keaton is. She’s both strikingly beautiful and remarkably intelligent. From the very beginning of her career, like in “Hair,” she was an exceptional actress. I first noticed her in “Lovers and Other Strangers” and immediately knew she was perfect for the role of Kay in The Godfather – she even told me she modeled the character after my wife, Ellie. Then, with films like “Annie Hall,” she delivered brilliant performances and simultaneously became a fashion icon. Diane Keaton truly embodies creativity in every sense of the word.
Woody Allen, who directed films with and once dated Keaton, reportedly didn’t know she was sick. A source told *US Magazine* that he was deeply saddened and shocked by the news, and it made him reflect on his own aging and mortality.
I was really saddened to hear about her passing. Director Paul Feig perfectly captured what so many are feeling – she wasn’t just a Hollywood icon, but a genuinely kind and incredibly creative person, and it’s just devastating that she’s gone so young.
Steven Martin and Diane Keaton had a playful relationship, as shown by a story Martin shared. It was an old magazine article where Martin Short jokingly asked Keaton who was more attractive – Martin or himself. Keaton’s response? “You’re both idiots!” Martin also posted a picture of Keaton with the simple caption, “Loved! La dee da, la dee da,” highlighting their close bond. Keaton had previously mentioned *Father of the Bride* as one of her favorite roles, further demonstrating their connection.
Kimberly William Paisley, known for playing “the Bride” in the film, also shared a heartfelt message. She wrote, “Diane, working with you was a true joy and one of the best experiences of my life. You’re incredibly special, and I loved being around you. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, talent, and especially your wonderful laughter.”
