Frameline, GLAAD and NewFest Host ‘Cheers, Queers’ Event at Sundance Film Festival – Film News in Brief

This year, for the second consecutive time, GLAAD will team up with Frameline and NewFest, two significant LGBTQ+ film festivals, to organize the “Cheers, Queers” event during the upcoming Sundance Film Festival.

On this coming Friday, January 24th, the “Cheers, Queers” gathering will take place, offering an evening filled with engaging discussions and lively celebrations. Highlights include a “Trans Stories and Storytelling” panel featuring director Zackary Drucker (“April & Amanda”) and actor Audrey Mason-Hyde (“Jimpa”), as well as the “Raising Our Voices” segment. This event is brought to you in collaboration with Acura, and will be co-hosted by IMDbPro.

It’s absolutely crucial now more than ever to establish designated areas at the Sundance Film Festival where LGBTQ cinema and its creators are highlighted,” state Frameline, GLAAD, and NewFest jointly. “This occasion is not merely a celebration, but serves as a testament to the transformative impact of LGBTQ narratives in fostering bonds, instigating change, and enhancing the richness and intricacy of our community. Once again this year, we are proud to come together in Park City for an event that amplifies queer voices and acknowledges the exceptional talent shaping these stories.

This year’s Sundance Film Festival runs from Jan. 23 to Feb. 2 in Park City.

Manila International Film Festival Postpones Its Second Edition due to Wildfires

The Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) has decided to delay the start of its second event, originally planned for January 30th to February 2nd, to an undetermined date within this year which they’ll share with us soon.

MIF is planning to exhibit submissions along with some exclusive feature films at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, followed by an award ceremony on the final night at the International Ballroom of The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.

As a dedicated fan of the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF), I feel compelled to share that due to the devastating wildfires ravaging Southern California, our team at MIFF has made the difficult decision to postpone the second 2025 edition, initially set from January 30 to February 2. We will announce a new date soon.

My heart goes out to those affected by these wildfires, particularly the Filipino community, as they face unimaginable trauma and loss. In these challenging times, I urge everyone to lend their support to fire relief efforts.

As we stand in solidarity with our fellow citizens, especially the brave frontline workers and volunteers, including the Filipino first responders, who are valiantly fighting these fires, we eagerly anticipate announcing the new dates for this year’s MIFF. Our upcoming event will be dedicated to honoring these heroes.
