As a long-time devotee of the silver screen and small, I must say that my eyes have been glued to the television sets this past November. The presidential election between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris was undeniably a captivating spectacle, with Fox News Channel dominating the airwaves. With a 20% increase in viewership compared to October, it’s no wonder that Fox reached an all-time high in overall share of TV usage – an impressive 8.6%.
In November, there was a 20% rise in viewers on Fox News Channel compared to the previous month, largely due to their reporting on the presidential election between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
In November, Fox achieved its highest-ever total share of television usage as recorded by Nielsen’s monthly Media Distributor Gauge survey, which categorizes viewership statistics based on media provider. The latest report indicates that Fox accounted for 8.6% of all TV viewing during this period, making it the second consecutive month in which the company has established a new personal best; last month, Fox held 8.4% of the market share, also an all-time high.
Alongside the popularity of Fox News – featuring Bret Baier’s interview with Kamala Harris and coverage during the election night – sports significantly contributed to Fox’s overall viewership increase. Affiliates of Fox saw a 8% rise in viewership compared to the previous month, with Nielsen pointing out that the final three games of the Dodgers vs. Yankees World Series, along with NFL and college football matches, were responsible for this surge.
Since the Gauge adheres to a broadcast schedule, the latest report encompasses information from October 28 to November 24 instead of solely November. Consequently, since Thanksgiving happened on November 28 this year, Thanksgiving viewing statistics are not included in the current report. A more accurate representation of holiday viewership patterns for 2024 can be found in December’s report.
To put it simply, Nielsen’s data shows an increase in holiday-related viewing, with Hallmark experiencing a significant surge this November. In fact, they saw a 24% rise in viewership, which now accounts for 1.4% of all TV usage, up from the 1.2% it held last month.
