As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! The much-loved, critically acclaimed racing game, Forza Horizon 5, was previously exclusive to Xbox but is now making its way to another console giant – PlayStation 5 this Spring. Released in 2021, this Xbox exclusive title earned the number two spot among the highest reviewed games of that year on OpenCritic, scoring an impressive 92 out of 100.
The larger map and immersive, handcrafted experiences in Forza Horizon 5 elevated the series to new heights, a point that many critics, including myself, have emphasized. So, gear up, fellow gamers! Whether you’re an Xbox die-hard or a PlayStation loyalist, we’re all set for a thrilling ride with Forza Horizon 5 this Spring!
Long-time Xbox exclusive, Forza Horizon 5, will arrive on PlayStation 5 this Spring
It appears that the ongoing console battles could be softening, as Xbox Game Studios has revealed plans to release Forza Horizon 5, developed by Playground Games, on the PlayStation 5. This announcement follows a year of speculation about several Xbox games potentially making an appearance on their competitor’s platform, including titles such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Gears of War. Forza Horizon 5 will mark the first time a game from the Xbox-published series is available on Sony’s console.
The responsibility for bringing Forza Horizon 5 to PlayStation 5 has been given to Panic Button, a studio known for porting games like Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal onto the Nintendo Switch. Notably, Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios (the team behind Forza Motorsport) will lend their expertise during this transition. Forza Horizon took to social media to officially announce that cross-play functionality will be accessible across all platforms.
In their latest blog post, the creators of Forza shared additional information. Previously launched Car Packs, such as the Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure expansions, can now be purchased for the PlayStation edition of the game. Moreover, the Forza team unveiled a new free content update named Horizon Realms, accessible across all platforms. This update will provide players an opportunity to delve into a selection of popular community-favorite Evolving Worlds, along with some exciting extras.
This announcement follows recent discussions by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, who expressed a belief in not limiting Xbox games to specific platforms. It’s possible that this is the first of several future announcements about major Xbox Studios titles moving to other systems, not just PlayStation. In fact, as revealed in interviews this week, Spencer has also hinted at Microsoft’s plans to provide robust support for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
It appears that anything regarding upcoming games could potentially be a possibility, given Spencer’s remarks and his stance on future exclusivity. This might mean that popular titles such as Starfield, Halo, and Gears of War could potentially make their way to PlayStation platforms earlier than expected.
