In 2025, Microsoft surprised many by bringing some of its popular Xbox games to PlayStation 5. Recent reports indicate that Forza Horizon 5 was the most successful of these ports. Released on PS5 four years after its initial launch, it sold more copies than the next four Xbox games combined, even though those games were available on PlayStation 5 for a longer period.
Alinea Analytics recently analyzed 2025 sales data and found that Forza Horizon 5 was the best-selling Xbox game on PlayStation 5, selling 5.1 million copies. Gears of War Reloaded came in second, a significant distance behind, with 572,000 copies sold. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle took third place (491,000 copies), followed by Flight Simulator in fourth (166,000). Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 completed the top five with 50,000 sales. The report highlighted that only one PlayStation 5 exclusive title, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (5.2 million copies), surpassed Forza Horizon 5 in sales last year.

This confirms a previous report from Alinea that Forza Horizon 5 generated $300 million in revenue on PlayStation 5. If Sony’s typical 30% cut is factored in, Microsoft likely earned around $210 million. That’s a significant amount, indicating strong demand for the game among PS5 players.
Microsoft announced Forza Horizon 6 in September, marking the first time the popular racing game will be set in Japan. While it will initially launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC, a PlayStation 5 version is planned for a later release. Some analysts believe delaying the PS5 launch could be a misstep, but considering how well the last Forza Horizon game performed, it’s expected to be successful on PlayStation as well.
Forza Horizon 6 will be released later this year, but a specific date hasn’t been announced.
