Fortnite posted a subtle hint on X—two swords in the ground—and asked a question using the word “trailblazing.” Fans quickly figured out this meant a collaboration with the game Honkai Star Rail is coming soon.
For years, Fortnite has trained its players to pay close attention to subtle clues. Instead of directly announcing new collaborations, Epic Games prefers to hint at them through carefully placed images, objects, and cryptic messages.
Fortnite has become famous for bringing in all sorts of characters – from Marvel heroes and popular singers like Hatsune Miku, to even internet memes like Skibidi Toilet. With each collaboration, the game pushed the boundaries of what felt appropriate, until there were no boundaries left. Epic Games now relies on its fans to quickly figure out what new hints mean, and this time, they did so almost immediately.
Fortnite’s latest tease points straight at Honkai Star Rail
On January 30th, the Epic Games Store shared a mysterious image on X (formerly Twitter). It showed two swords under a starry sky, with only the question, “Who’s trailblazing their way to Fortnite?” hinting at something new coming to the game.

As a Star Rail player, it didn’t take us long to figure things out! We noticed one blade design totally matched Blade’s broken weapon, and another lined up perfectly with Kafka’s sword. It wasn’t just the visuals either – the way they described things, using the word “Trailblazing”, really hit home since that’s such a core concept in the game’s story and world.
Shortly after, a prominent Fortnite leaker named HYPEX suggested that the upcoming update would likely feature skins based on the characters Blade and Kafka.
If rumors are true, Fortnite is about to enter a new world: the world of ‘gacha’ games, particularly those made by Hoyoverse. Honkai Star Rail’s sleek, futuristic style fits well with Fortnite’s colorful look, and this could open the door for other popular Hoyoverse games like Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero to appear in the battle royale as well.
Currently, we have more questions than confirmed details. Epic Games hasn’t officially announced any character skins, special events, or cosmetic items related to the crossover. We also don’t know when it will be released or how extensive it will be.
