Former BioWare and EA Devs Release Trailer for ARPG Cloudheim

Today, I’m thrilled about the debut of the first trailer for “Cloudheim”, an exciting indie game developed by ex-BioWare and EA team members. This co-op action-RPG is bursting with vibrant colors and fast-paced gameplay that’s a whirlwind of aerial combos and spellcasting. The combat system in “Cloudheim” is described as “chaotic physics-based,” offering players the freedom to get creative, even when it comes to crafting mechanics. Given the current situation at EA and BioWare, this new trailer really resonates with me.

Former BioWare and EA devs released a vibrant new trailer for Coudheim, a co-op action-RPG

In 2022, Noodle Cat Games – a fresh game development studio responsible for the upcoming title Cloudheim – was established by David Hunt, who currently holds the position of CEO. Prior to founding Noodle Cat Games, Hunt honed his skills as a Senior Designer at BioWare and the Lead Systems Designer at Epic Games. The studio’s website states their mission: “We create games by infusing trust, creativity, and empathy into every aspect of our work.” Cloudheim represents the culmination of three years of dedicated efforts from the team at Noodle Cat Games.

A week following the aftermath of layoffs and underwhelming sales of their latest action RPG, Dragon Age: Veilguard, EA and BioWare are now grappling with the consequences. EA’s CEO has publicly expressed his view that Dragon Age fell short because it lacked live-service features, a statement that has drawn criticism from many within the industry. Prior to this, BioWare downsized, moving some developers to other EA teams and letting go of others, as they shift their attention towards Mass Effect 5. The unveiling of this new trailer suggests that establishing an independent studio might have been the right move for them.

In a joint statement with the trailer launch, Hunt expressed, “We started with a basic idea – what if we could transform juggling from fighting games into the fundamental combat system for a cooperative action RPG? This concept is vividly demonstrated in the trailer, where players are seen flinging enemies aloft and executing a series of melee combos before sending them flying.” The game, titled Cloudheim, invites up to four players to engage in cooperative play, craft weapons, and construct bases.

The game titled Cloudheim appears intriguing, but whether it will ultimately be successful depends on its ability to appeal to an audience. At present, there’s no confirmed release date, but it’s anticipated that Cloudheim will come out this year. It’s slated for launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC through Steam.
