As a seasoned Guardian with countless hours spent traversing the cosmos and battling hordes of alien foes, I can confidently say that Touch of Malice has undergone a remarkable transformation thanks to Bungie’s latest updates. This once-forgotten Exotic weapon, now revitalized, is a game-changer for Warlocks, particularly in the PvE realm.
As a dedicated enthusiast immersed in the universe of Destiny 2, I’ve come to appreciate the rarity of the Raid Exotics, but I must admit they often fall short of being universally useful. Many of these exotic items seem to cater to niche, highly specialized roles rather than providing broader utility.
In many instances, the strategy or most effective approach (meta) in Bungie’s loot-shooting game can shift significantly following significant updates due to the introduction of novel interactions and synergies.
Originally overlooked alongside King’s Fall when it was reintroduced in Destiny, Touch of Malice has been deemed ineffective due to its self-damaging trait. However, with Revenant’s Artifact Mods, this weapon has become one of the top damage primary options for Warlock players in the game.
According to Destiny Tracker, the usage of Touch of Malice in all Player versus Environment (PvE) activities is below 0.1%. Here’s an argument as to why this percentage should be significantly greater.
Touch of Malice Prismatic build – Meta analysis

After The Final Shape, it’s the Prismatic ability set you’ll find useful in this scenario. Unlike many Warlock builds that combine both Light and Darkness subclasses, it’s the exotic armor piece Solipsism, not Getaway Artist, that is crucial for your setup here.
You’re looking for one that has the “Spirit of the Claw” and “Spirit of the Necrotic.” These enhance your “Arcane Needle” skill in a couple of ways: The first spirit adds an additional melee attack, while the second spreads poison among enemies en masse.
The Touch of Malice weapon, serving as a Tool of Grief, adds poison to its attacks, particularly when using the blight projectile as an alternate fire option thanks to its Charged with Blight enhancement.
Inflicting Blind is another responsibility of the Charged with Blight mechanism. The Revenant’s Arc Compounding Artifact Mod amplifies all forms of Arc damage. When combined with Touch of Malice, rapid-fire Arc weapons will swiftly dismantle blinded adversaries, and the Arc and Kinetic Weapon Surge only enhances their effectiveness even more.
One potential issue with Touch of Malice is its built-in self-inflicted damage, yet this can be minimized significantly by frequently using Healing Rifts, grenades, Devour ability, and the exotic weapon’s own healing effect when landing quick finishing blows.
