If you loved Baldur’s Gate 3 on PlayStation 5 and are craving another Dungeons & Dragons adventure, you’re in luck! There’s a fantastic RPG set in the Forgotten Realms available to PS5 owners completely free – and you don’t need a PlayStation Plus subscription to access it, though an online connection is required to play.
There’s so much to enjoy about Baldur’s Gate 3 – it faithfully brings the 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons rules to life, has a compelling story, memorable characters, and has won tons of awards. But if what you really love is playing with friends in co-op, or you’re not a fan of turn-based battles, then let me tell you about another D&D game you might like.
Neverwinter Is A Free-To-Play MMORPG

I’m really into Neverwinter – it’s a free online role-playing game set in the amazing Dungeons & Dragons world of the Forgotten Realms! I’ve been playing it on my PlayStation 4 since 2016, and the great thing is, it also works on the PlayStation 5 now thanks to backwards compatibility.
Downloading Neverwinter is free on all platforms, like the PS5. But since it’s an online game with other players, you’ll need a PlayStation Plus membership to be able to play.
Despite this, everything in Neverwinter – the main game and all its expansions – is completely free to play. While the game does offer optional in-game purchases, you don’t need to spend money to have fun or progress; these purchases simply offer extra features, benefits, or in-game currency.
Why Neverwinter Is Worth Playing On PS5
An Alternate Take On The Forgotten Realms
Neverwinter differs from Baldur’s Gate 3 in a few ways. Primarily, it’s an action RPG, meaning it plays much like a typical massively multiplayer online game (MMO). You create a character, equip them with a range of abilities displayed on a hotbar, and gradually earn points to unleash stronger attacks.
When it comes to immersive stories within the Forgotten Realms, these games offer the same experience. You’ll discover a new part of Faerûn, primarily around the city of Neverwinter, through a continuing story delivered in the main game and additional expansions.
You can also customize your character in Neverwinter. The game features 13 races and 9 classes, each with two unique specializations. While the rules aren’t exactly the same as the latest edition of Dungeons & Dragons, you can still create a character similar to one you’ve played before, continue the adventures of a character from Baldur’s Gate 3, or create someone entirely new.
Best of all, you can team up with up to four other players to create a real *Dungeons & Dragonsstyle group, tackling battles and enjoying the story’s surprises as a team.
If you enjoyed playing Baldur’s Gate 3 with friends, especially if you also played Divinity, then Neverwinter could be your next favorite game. It offers a different experience with its fast-paced combat and unique world, but still delivers a compelling story that fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 will appreciate. Plus, it’s free to play, so you can try it out without any cost!
