A passionate England football fan is trying to sell his house quickly so he can travel across North America for seven weeks to attend the FIFA World Cup.
Andy Milne, a 62-year-old retiree, plans to use the equity from his second home to pay for a trip to a summer tournament.
For over forty years, starting with the 1982 tournament, Milne has been a dedicated England supporter at major international competitions. This year’s World Cup will be his ninth following the men’s team, and his tenth overall, including his trip to support the women’s team, the Lionesses, in 2023.
Many England supporters will recognize him – he’s appeared on TV several times, particularly during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2024 Euros in Germany, and he’s always seen carrying his famous replica trophy.
Looking to sell for possibly Milne’s most expensive trip yet
Currently based in Thailand, Mr. Milne is selling his property in Northwich, Cheshire, for £350,000, which is equivalent to $465,000. He has been renting it out until now.
According to an interview with the Mirror, Mr. Milne is selling his second home after 27 years because he plans to attend the World Cup. He described it as a good time to sell and realize the property’s value.
Football fans in Europe have protested what they call unfairly high ticket prices. To see every match of the tournament – a total of eight games – a single fan would have to spend at least £5,225 (about $6,932).
