Florida man kills and eats his pet peacocks after neighbor kept feeding them

A man in Florida faces charges of aggravated animal cruelty after confessing to killing and consuming his pet peacocks. According to deputies, he committed this act intentionally, fueled by anger after discovering his neighbor had been feeding the birds. He did it out of spite, they say.

The man accused in the case, 53-year-old Craig Vogt of Hudson, owned several peacocks that were allowed to wander around his land. His neighbor reported to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office that she regularly gave them food, even after Vogt told her not to. Investigators say the relationship between the two neighbors had become strained leading up to the recent event.

Police were called on September 21st after a woman found a letter in her mailbox detailing how Vogt had killed two peacocks. According to court documents, Vogt wrote that he slit their throats, cooked them in a frying pan, and ate them for dinner. When officers arrived, Vogt admitted to the killings, explaining he was angry with his neighbor.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office arrested Vogt and charged him with aggravated cruelty to animals, specifically causing excessive pain or death. According to court records, he was taken to the Pasco County Jail with a $25,000 bond and a public defender was appointed to represent him. The official complaint also states that Vogt reportedly threatened to kill his remaining birds so that no one else could feed them.

When Vogt first appeared in court, he was still being held in jail. He hasn’t formally responded to the charges yet. The Fox 13 Tampa Bay news station was the first to report these details, which were also confirmed by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office in their official complaint.
