Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is being released in theaters this week, hoping to match the success of the first movie, which earned nearly $300 million worldwide. Actor Matthew Lillard, who returns for the sequel, was so frightened by it that he thought it might have received an R rating.
Director Emma Tammi shared in an interview with Dexerto that actor Matthew Lillard recently watched the film and was surprised by how frightening it was, questioning if it still deserved a PG-13 rating. Tammi explained that while the new movie is definitely darker than the first one, she intentionally aimed for a PG-13 rating to make it accessible to younger viewers.
As a fan, I’m really excited to hear that the director, Tammi, thinks this new installment delivers on the scares! She said they really listened to those of us who wanted to see things get a little more intense. But they also wanted to make sure it’s still something younger viewers can enjoy, without holding back the genuinely creepy stuff for those of us who love a good scare.
Josh Hutcherson returns as Mike Schmidt, the security guard from Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, and he’s joined by Piper Rubio as his sister, Abby, and Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa, William Afton’s daughter. The cast also includes new faces like Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, and Skeet Ulrich, who previously worked with Josh Hutcherson in Scream. Megan Fox will voice Toy Chica, Kellen Goff will voice Toy Freddy, and MatPat, the host of The Game Theorists, will voice Toy Bonnie.
To help promote their movie, the team at TopMob sampled Popeyes’ Five Nights at Freddy’s Deluxe chicken box. And for fans who want to learn more about the story, the updated Five Nights at Freddy’s Ultimate Guide Version 2.0 is now available in bookstores.
Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 will hit theaters on Friday, December 5.
