The new Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 movie is almost here, and director Emma Tammi says fans of the FnaF games have a lot to look forward to.
The movie adaptation of the horror game was a big hit when it was released in October 2023. It made almost $300 million around the world, despite only costing $20 million to produce, making it Blumhouse’s most profitable film so far.
Despite mixed reviews from critics (a 33% score on Rotten Tomatoes), the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie successfully adapted the original video game and brought the animatronic characters to life. Viewers clearly enjoyed it, giving it an 86% rating.
The new movie will build on what made the first one successful, taking inspiration from the second Five Nights at Freddy’s game. It will also feature popular characters like Mangle and The Puppet. But that’s not all fans have to look forward to!
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will leave fans “satisfied” with darker tone
Director Emma Tammi recently told TopMob that the upcoming Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will be significantly more frightening than the original film. She believes fans who hoped for a scarier first movie will be pleased with the sequel.
Matthew Lillard recently watched the film and was surprised by how frightening it was. He actually called me to ask if it was still rated PG-13.
Tammi discussed how they aimed for an age rating that would work for a wide range of viewers. They wanted the film to be accessible to younger audiences, but also maintain a genuinely dark and frightening atmosphere for older viewers.
Man, I think we totally nailed the scares with this movie! Especially when it comes to jump scares, we really took inspiration from Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 – that game is just so good at them, and we wanted to capture that same feeling.

The atmosphere of the film is really unsettling and works well, but it’s not overly graphic or violent. I think this actually makes the movie feel very similar in tone to the video games.
The experience focuses more on how it feels than on the visuals themselves. We’ve really emphasized the amazing scares created by the animatronics, and we’ve done our best to make them even more impactful in this version.
The director explained that the team intentionally added more features inspired by the game into the sequel. She believes this will be enjoyable for fans to spot and appreciate.
Tammi expressed hope that fans of the original movie would watch the sequel, believing they’d enjoy it even more.
The movie Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will be released in theaters on December 5, 2025. While you wait, you can explore the books and games from the Five Nights at Freddy’s series, check out the YouTubers who appeared in the first movie, and discover other films currently playing in cinemas.
