First-person action RPG Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish set to release in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC

I was so excited to see Nacon and Teyon – the team behind RoboCop: Rogue City and Terminator: Resistance – announce Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish during the recent Xbox Partner Preview! It’s a first-person action RPG, and I’m already marking my calendar for its 2027 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Can’t wait!

Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish takes place in the same fictional universe as popular games like Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The Apocalypse. It’s the first new Hunter game in over two decades, following a series of action-focused titles released for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the early 2000s.

In a recent post on Xbox Wire, game director Piotr Łatocha explained the vision for their new game, drawing inspiration from the classic Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. They’re also adapting the rules from the 5th edition tabletop role-playing game, Hunter: The Reckoning. Łatocha describes the game as a slower-paced experience with investigation, romance options, meaningful companion interactions, and a story that changes based on player choices. Side quests will be unique, and players will have multiple ways to overcome challenges. The game will feature a character creator and take place in a semi-open world.

Nacon and Teyon, the developers of RoboCop: Rogue City, recently announced their next game, Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish, at the Xbox Partner Showcase. This action RPG is set in the popular World of Darkness universe, returning to video games after a 20-year hiatus. Players will experience a first-person, single-player adventure as a monster hunter in a large, detailed version of New York City, operating secretly among the unaware population. Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in summer 2027.

Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish takes place in a shadowy, monster-filled New York City. You play as a Hunter – a human who’s discovered the terrifying truth about the supernatural creatures secretly controlling the world and has decided to fight back. Like the original tabletop game, you can fully customize your Hunter and explore the city freely, uncovering clues and side quests to help you defeat powerful and dangerous enemies.

As a Hunter, you really need to think about how you approach each monster’s lair – sometimes you’ll have to go in swinging, other times stealth is key, and sometimes you need to outsmart them completely. Luckily, we have tons of weapons, both for close-up fights and from a distance, so the combat is super intense and satisfying. You’re not alone either – you become part of a hunter cell and team up with five awesome companions. They each have their own backgrounds and personalities, and they’re a huge help on hunts. Plus, you can actually build relationships with them, and maybe even find romance along the way!

During the game, players create a unique story as their character, the Hunter, makes key choices through conversations and missions. These decisions have consequences, leading to different outcomes and affecting how the story ends. Choices can also impact relationships with allies, attracting unwanted attention from the authorities and creating new challenges along the way.

Jess Lanzillo, Creative Director at White Wolf for World of Darkness, was immediately impressed with Deathwish. She explained that Teyon clearly understands what makes the Hunter: The Reckoning universe so engaging, and Deathwish perfectly captures their vision for bringing it to life. Lanzillo also noted that Nacon has a strong track record of delivering World of Darkness games that fans enjoy, and she’s confident Teyon is in capable hands.

Hunters have a single, vital job: protecting people from monsters. If they don’t step in, no one will.

Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in the summer of 2027.
