First Look at The Last of Us Season 3 Set Revealed by New Photos

New photos from the set of The Last of Us Season 3 suggest the show will revisit a significant location from the video game. While Season 1 of the HBO series followed the story of the first The Last of Us game, Season 2 began adapting the sequel, Part II. A major turning point in Season 2 involved Kaitlyn Dever as Abby killing Pedro Pascal’s Joel, which sets Bella Ramsey’s Ellie on a path of revenge. HBO quickly renewed the show for a third season, and production is now underway.

The first images from the set of The Last of Us Season 3, filmed in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, have surfaced online thanks to a Reddit user named raybarks. Filming started in March and is scheduled to finish in November. The photos show large blue screens being used for outdoor scenes, and many believe these are for building the Seraphites’ village. Season 3 is expected to focus heavily on the character of Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever, and her storyline will likely involve more scenes in and around the village.

Although production for Season 3 of The Last of Us is just beginning and many locations are still to be determined, a recent photo featuring boats strongly hints that the filming is taking place on Haven, the home island of the Seraphites.

More photos from the filming location, posted on Instagram by user _.nerdythings (originally shared by 8ballinc25), reveal more of the Seraphites’ area. These images show run-down buildings mixed with the island’s wooded landscapes.

Although production is just starting, HBO says we can expect Season 3 of The Last of Us in 2027. They haven’t announced a more specific release date yet.

Filming for Season 2 started in February 2024, after being postponed due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. It took six months to complete, wrapping up in August, and finally premiered on HBO in April 2025.

If the pattern from previous seasons holds true, the third season of HBO’s The Last of Us could arrive around April-June 2027, potentially marking the end of the series.

Seraphite Island’s Role in The Last of Us Season 3 Explained

In Season 2 of The Last of Us, the Seraphites (also known as Scars) were introduced as enemies in the show’s post-apocalyptic setting. This isolated cult lives on an island near Seattle, created by severe flooding. This geographical separation keeps them apart from the rest of the city, which is largely controlled by a military group called the Washington Liberation Front (WLF).

Find out why the WLF Wolves and the Seraphites are at war in The Last of Us.

During Season 2, viewers briefly saw Seraphite Island when Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, washed ashore there while looking for Abby. She was captured and almost killed, but managed to escape during the chaos of an attack on the island by the WLF.

As a huge fan of The Last of Us, I’m really excited about the possibility of Seraphite Island being a key location in Season 3. If the show follows the storyline of Part II like it has so far, we’re almost guaranteed to see it. That’s where Abby’s journey really changes – she ends up leaving the WLF after crossing paths with the Seraphite siblings, Lev and Yara. It’s a pivotal moment, and I can’t wait to see how they bring it to life on screen!

Abby will eventually need to travel to Seraphite Island, also called Haven, to find Lev after he goes back there hoping to persuade his mother to abandon the cult.
