Now that season two of Fallout has finished, it’s likely we won’t see season three until around 2027, which will probably disappoint fans. However, we won’t have to wait too long for more from a fan-favorite actor – they’ll be starring in a second season of their Starz series, and a first look has just been released.
Ella Purnell is quickly becoming a sought-after actress, having starred in two recent hits back-to-back: the popular Showtime series Yellowjackets and Prime Video’s Fallout. Although her character in Yellowjackets didn’t survive long, Purnell immediately moved on to another successful show. She’s now starring in Sweetpea on Starz, and Starz recently released a first look at Purnell as the main character, Rhiannon, in Season 2.

Starz
The first season of the show was adapted from the books by CJ Skuse, and the second season continues to draw from those same novels. Here’s how Starz describes the upcoming season:
I recently came across this story about Rhiannon, and it really grabbed me. She’s just… invisible, you know? People don’t notice her, she’s passed over at work, and her personal life is a mess with a sick father and a guy who won’t commit. But then, something snaps. It’s like this quiet woman completely disappears and is replaced by someone with a dangerous edge. The story follows her as she discovers this newfound power, and honestly, it’s thrilling, but it also makes you wonder – can she keep what she’s become a secret? It’s a really compelling premise.
A highlight of the first season was its creative approach to the original books. Instead of directly adapting the story, the show functioned as a reimagined origin story. The books introduced Rhiannon as an established killer, but the first season of the Starz series delved into the events that led her down that path.
The books were good, but seeing Rhiannon become increasingly dangerous made her story much more interesting. We see both her everyday frustrations – being overlooked and dismissed – and the larger unfairness she experiences. While her actions are extreme, and she’s certainly taking things too far with the killings, she’s a more relatable and understandable character than many other villains we’ve seen in similar stories.

Although Sweetpea didn’t achieve the same level of pop culture buzz as some of Imogen Purnell’s other shows, critics generally liked it, giving it an 88% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s worth remembering that Sweetpea is a Starz original, co-produced with Sky Atlantic in the UK, meaning it’s found a dedicated international audience even if it hasn’t become a huge hit in the U.S.
