Penned and helmed by Drew Hancock, “Companion” is another AI/robot thriller in a long line of such productions from recent years. However, the trailer suggests that this one could offer a distinctly original taste.
In a blend of science fiction suspense and humorous romance, “Companion” stars Sophie Thatcher as Iris, an android who serves as Jack Quaid’s character Josh’s girlfriend. Trouble brews when Josh decides to free Iris, essentially jailbreaking her like an iPhone. This action leads to Iris malfunctioning and the situation escalating into a dangerous one. The trailer offers an intriguing concept and some gruesome scenes. However, there are certain character elements that seem slightly unconvincing or inconsistent.
